2024 On September 23, Chongqing Fengdong Metal Surface Treatment Co., Ltd. warmly welcomed teachers and students from the Metallic Materials Engineering program at Chongqing University of Science and Technology for a visit aimed at broadening students’ horizons, deepening their understanding of the industry, and strengthening their professional awareness.
The event begins, Minister Wang from the production department of Chongqing Fengdong The reception procedures were explained in detail to the visiting students, with particular emphasis on safety precautions that must be observed during the tour, ensuring that each student can learn and interact in a safe environment. Afterwards, Minister Wang led the students on a tour of the company’s various facilities. Heat treatment equipment The structure and operating principles of these devices are explained in detail, and the production methods of different products are introduced, helping students gain a more intuitive understanding of the applications of heat treatment technology.
At the R&D center, Minister Zhu provided a detailed introduction to knowledge related to heat treatment processes and encouraged students to master the fundamentals thoroughly, emphasizing the importance of integrating theory with practice. In the metallography lab, students personally observed the operation and use of testing equipment such as Brinell hardness testers, Rockwell hardness testers, Vickers hardness testers, and metallographic microscopes, thereby deepening their understanding of materials testing techniques.
After the tour, Chongqing Fengdong specially arranged a networking session. During the session, Director Zhu from the Technical Department and Engineer Long provided an in-depth explanation of the products and manufacturing processes. Subsequently, Director Yang from the Integrated Management Department introduced the students to the company’s development journey and future plans, and gave a detailed overview of Fengdong’s talent recruitment program. The company sincerely invites students from Chongqing University of Science and Technology to join Chongqing Fengdong after graduation, working together to drive the company’s continued growth and innovation.
Through this visit, students from Chongqing University of Science and Technology not only broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding of the heat treatment industry, but also gained a clearer direction for their academic studies and future career planning. Chongqing Fengdong hopes that through such activities, it can cultivate more outstanding talents for the industry and foster deeper cooperation and exchange between enterprises and universities.

Lean Management in Heat Treatment Production
Heat treatment is an important component of the mechanical processing industry. Within the industry, there are two main types of production methods—each differing in scale and nature: one is small-batch, order-driven production for individual parts, and the other is a multi-batch, high-volume production model. In recent years, with the rapid development of the machinery industry, the heat treatment processing sector has also experienced swift growth. However, the technical standards and management practices in this sector remain unstandardized, resulting in suboptimal economic and social benefits. For enterprises seeking to grow and enhance their economic performance, it is essential to broadly analyze potential issues in heat treatment production while prioritizing quality improvement and cost reduction. Moreover, it is crucial to proactively identify and address possible problems at an early stage. By adopting lean management principles, optimizing processes and workflows, and standardizing operations and procedures, we can ensure that heat treatment quality is inherently built into the manufacturing process rather than merely inspected afterward. Only by earning greater customer trust and securing more orders can we effectively reduce heat treatment production costs.

Methods for Controlling Residual Austenite in Heat Treatment
After quenching, parts invariably retain some residual austenite, to a greater or lesser extent. Excessive residual austenite is detrimental to the service life and hardness of the parts, potentially leading to soft spots and dimensional instability. However, a moderate amount of residual austenite can actually enhance the fatigue strength of the parts. By carefully controlling the level of residual austenite, we can effectively manage product quality and service life, thereby achieving the desired outcomes.

Classification of Heat Treatment Cracks
Quenching cracks—longitudinal cracks (microstructural stress type), arc cracks (local tensile stress type), quenching cracks in large workpieces (longitudinal and transverse fractures), surface cracks along edges and contours (local tensile stress type), decarburization cracks, and Type II stress cracks.
